Santa Clarita City Council District 2
Building a stronger, more responsive city government for the families who call Santa Clarita home.
Brett Haddoak is a software engineer, small business owner, and lifelong Santa Clarita resident running to serve as your representative on the Santa Clarita City Council.
Meet Brett
Brett Haddoak has called Santa Clarita home his entire life — and his family helped build it.
His grandparents arrived in the late 1960s and chose to raise their five kids in the Santa Clarita Valley. His grandfather went on to pour concrete for Dodger Stadium, operate heavy machinery on the Castaic Lake Dam, and help construct the 5 and 14 freeways. His late father built a career as an aftermarket automotive wholesaler, served the Canyon Country Chamber of Commerce, and was a fixture at community events from Frontier Days to Saugus Speedway. His mother spent nearly 20 years serving Santa Clarita's kids as a school lunch lady. Brett and his wife Rachelle are now raising their daughter here.
Brett is a software engineer with 20 years of experience, currently running a small business that builds software for public schools. He previously worked as a contractor for the Department of Defense and has spent his career solving complex problems with practical tools.
But the work he's most proud of happens outside the office. Since 2015, Brett has volunteered at Bridge to Home, Santa Clarita's homelessness nonprofit, logging over 1,000 hours. He served on the city's Homelessness Task Force and personally built the software that powered Santa Clarita's Shared Housing Pilot program — a concrete example of what it looks like when someone brings both technical skill and genuine commitment to a local problem.
That's the kind of representative Brett wants to be: someone who shows up, does the work, and actually delivers.
What we're fighting for:
Homelessness & Housing
Santa Clarita has a homelessness problem and a housing choice problem, and they're connected. I've spent over 1,000 hours volunteering at Bridge to Home, served on the city's Homelessness Task Force, and personally built the software that powered Santa Clarita's Shared Housing Pilot program. As your council member, I'll push to revive proven programs and build the kind of diverse housing stock that gives every resident the freedom to choose where and how they live, whether that's an apartment, a condo, or a single-family home. When seniors can downsize, families can upsize, and young people can get a first foothold, the whole community benefits.
Responsive, Accountable Leadership
Your council member should be reachable, visible, and answerable to you — not just at election time. I'll hold regular town halls, maintain open office hours, and make sure every resident has a direct line to my office regardless of their schedule. Santa Clarita deserves a representative who treats accountability as a baseline, not a campaign promise.
Healthcare Infrastructure
Santa Clarita has one hospital serving a city of over 230,000 people, and if you live on the east side, you're already too far from it. I'll work to bring an emergency stabilization facility to the east side in partnership with Henry Mayo, and pursue a long-term path to a second full-service hospital with trauma capability. A city this size deserves better, and it's past time we demanded it.
Modernizing Local Transit
Traffic isn't going to fix itself, and building more lanes has never solved congestion permanently. I'll advocate for improved Metrolink connections and work to position Santa Clarita for long-term light rail investment, starting with proven transit-oriented development nodes in Old Town Newhall, the Valencia mall site, and the Bermite property. Getting this right means engaging Southern California's regional planning agencies, pursuing federal grant funding, and making sure Santa Clarita gets its fair share of the transportation dollars we're already sending to Sacramento.
Smart Growth & Development
California's housing shortage is real, and Santa Clarita needs to be part of the solution, but how we grow matters as much as whether we grow. I'll champion mixed-use, transit-adjacent development that builds on what's already working in Old Town Newhall, while pushing back on reactive, developer-driven approvals that don't serve residents. Smart growth means building a city where you can live, work, and thrive without getting on the 5.
Protecting Our Open Spaces
Santa Clarita's trails, open spaces, and natural habitats are part of what makes this city worth fighting for. As an avid cyclist, I ride these paths with my family and I understand firsthand what's at stake when development pressure encroaches on the places that make this valley livable. I'll work to preserve and expand our trail network, protect sensitive habitat, and ensure that growth doesn't come at the expense of the open spaces future generations deserve.
Water & Emergency Preparedness
Water security and emergency preparedness aren't flashy issues, but they're foundational ones, and a competent council member needs to understand both. I'll engage seriously with the SCV Water Agency, the Metropolitan Water District, and regional partners to advocate for recycled water expansion, groundwater banking, and long-term supply resilience. On emergency preparedness, I'll push the city to close the gaps that wildfires, earthquakes, and other disasters have exposed. Santa Clarita has lived through both, and we deserve a council that takes that history seriously.

"As a small business owner and a dad raising a toddler here in Santa Clarita, Brett understands what families are facing every day. He knows how hard people are working, how much costs have gone up, and how many families are wondering how they'll get ahead. Brett is running because he sees the challenges his neighbors are facing and wants to make sure every family has the opportunity, support, and security they need to thrive. Santa Clarita deserves leaders who understand real life challenges, and Brett brings exactly that kind of experience to this race." — Congressman George Whitesides
Assemblywoman Pilar Schiavo
"Brett Haddoak has deep roots in Santa Clarita. For generations, his family has helped build and strengthen this community through hard work, service, and an unwavering commitment to their neighbors. Now Brett has started a family of his own and is ready to bring that legacy into the future. As a new dad, he understands making Santa Clarita special means investing in safe neighborhoods, strong local businesses, healthy families, and opportunities for the next generation. I know he'll lead with the same values that have defined his family for decades, values he’s passing on to his daughter, working to ensure that years from now, families like his will still be proud to call Santa Clarita home." — Assemblywoman Pilar Schiavo
