Meet Brett

Brett Haddoak is a lifelong resident of Santa Clarita and a software engineer with 20 years of experience. He was raised by parents who believed strongly in serving the community and those in need, passing that passion and commitment along to him. He and his wife, Rachelle, are now raising the fourth generation of their family here, along with their 20-month-old daughter Rory.

Brett's grandparents arrived in Santa Clarita in the 1960s after moving from Colorado, taking on odd jobs like fruit picking and janitorial work to get by. His grandfather went on to work in construction throughout Southern California, pouring concrete for Dodger Stadium, operating heavy machinery during the construction of Castaic Lake Dam, and helping build the 5 and 14 freeways — projects that shaped the infrastructure this region still relies on today. That same work ethic carried into the next generation: Brett's mother spent 20 years as a school lunch lady serving Santa Clarita's kids, and his father built a career as an aftermarket automotive wholesaler.

Brett carries that same spirit of service into his own life, volunteering at Bridge to Home and donating his expertise for local causes. He previously worked as a contractor on budgeting and contract management systems for the Department of Defense, as well as for eBay and various startups. Brett currently runs his own small business providing software for schools.

What we're fighting for:

Responsive, Accountable Leadership

Elected representatives should be visible, accessible, and accountable to the people they serve. I will host regular town halls so residents can speak directly with me about the issues that matter most to them, whether that's road repairs on their street, a new development going up in their neighborhood, or how the city is spending their tax dollars. For residents who can't make it to a town hall, I'll make sure there are other ways to reach me too, including office hours, email, and social media, so everyone has a voice regardless of their schedule.

Modernizing Local Transit

Reliable, modern transit options make it easier for residents to get to work, school, and everything in between, while reducing traffic congestion on our roads and freeways. I will advocate for improved connections to high-demand destinations to the greater LA area. Long-term, I will push for the city to study and pursue a local light rail system, connecting our neighborhoods, schools, and commercial centers to give residents a real alternative to sitting in traffic.

Smart Growth & Development

California is facing a housing shortage, and Santa Clarita needs to be part of the solution, but we can do it the right way. I will champion smart, sustainable development that prioritizes mixed-use and medium-density housing, the kind of walkable, transit-adjacent neighborhoods we've already seen succeed in Old Town Newhall and Vista Canyon. By replicating that approach elsewhere in our city, we can ease the housing shortage while building vibrant communities where people can live, shop, and work close to home. I will also prioritize development projects that bring more jobs to Santa Clarita, strengthening our local economy and reducing the need for residents to commute outside the city for work.

Protecting Our Open Spaces

Santa Clarita's open spaces and trails are part of what makes this city special, and I want to make sure we protect and expand them for future generations. As an avid cyclist, I love getting out on our bike paths with my wife and daughter, and I know firsthand how much these trails mean to families across our community. I will work to preserve our open spaces, protect our natural habitats, and expand our network of bike paths and trails to connect more neighborhoods, parks, and destinations throughout the city, so more residents can experience the outdoors the way my family does.
